USA College of Medicine dean named outstanding alumnus of alma

usa logo.gifStrada, of Mobile, holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in pharmacology from the school and a doctorate in pharmacology from the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, Tenn.

In 1983, Strada joined USA as professor and chair of pharmacology. In 1994, he was named senior associate medical dean for the USA College of Medicine. During his tenure, Strada has served as acting director of the graduate program in basic medical sciences, assistant dean for admissions and acting chair of psychiatry, among other roles.

He became interim dean of the College of Medicine in 2005, and was given the job in late 2007.

Strada has earned national recognition for research on cellular signaling mechanisms, school officials have said, and has published more than 200 articles and abstracts. He has been active in the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics and the Council of Academic Societies of the Association of American Medical Colleges.

Strada has served as president of the Association for Medical School Pharmacology Chairs and the Southeastern Pharmacology Society.
